Stephanie Schafer was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her BFA in photography from the University of Maryland in 2000. After spending several years living in Los Angeles, working in a theater company for the blind, she returned to Baltimore to raise her daughter.
Since then she has been active in the non-profit arts community teaching expressive arts therapy classes to at risk youth and disabled adults, as well as making and exhibiting her mixed media collages.
Stephanie has a genetic condition called Albinism which is characterized by a deficit in the production of melanin and by the partial or complete absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. She is legally blind.
